THE Lady Cheetahs were given a day to let their hair down and celebrate qualifying for the Africa Cup when the team was hosted for a special luncheon by kit sponsors Minerva on Thursday.

The team put up what is now being termed a ‘flawless’ performance in Lesotho last weekend.

The women’s Sevens’ team finished the tournament without conceding a try or a point and duly qualified for the Africa Cup in Tunisia.

It will be the final leg for qualifying for the Women’s Sevens’ World Cup scheduled for South Africa later this year.

“We are extremely proud,” said Zimbabwe Rugby Union vice president (North) Losson Mtongwiza.

“I don’t remember any team doing what they did in Lesotho, and I have been involved with the sport for over 20 years.

“To finish an entire tournament without conceding a try or any point is just amazing.”

Minerva’s marketing and public relations manager Freida Chapfika promised to increase the company’s sponsorship deal.

“We are more than ecstatic, as we didn’t expect such results,” said Chapfika.

“When we heard that we finished the tournament without conceding a point, we were more than impressed.

“These girls did a fantastic job and they should be proud …

“Initially, we were just a minor sponsor and started off merely covering their travel insurance needs for trips.

“We then moved on to the current kit sponsorship.

“Now, we want to do more,” she said.
