NEW: Manica Diamonds target massive mid-season recruitment

Online Reporter

THE owners of Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Manica Diamonds are planning a massive recruitment of players during the midseason transfer window.

A source within the club also revealed that Africa Minerals Ventures (AMV) were still committed to funding the Manicaland-based side, quashing midweek reports suggesting a pullout.

Manica Diamonds will play Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium on Sunday, hoping to pick up maximum points.

Last week, they held moneybags Hardrock at Green Fuel Arena in Chisumbanje.

“AMV remains fully committed to Manica Diamonds Football Club, including the senior team,” said a senior executive member of AMV.

“There is no confusion at all with regards that position. In fact, there are plans to revamp the club.”

AMV are set to fund recruitment of players from within the country and region when the transfer window opens in July.

Players from Eswatini and Zambia are being targeted.

Eswatini has become a favourite hunting ground for Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clubs.

A number of clubs, including defending champions Scottland, Chicken Inn and Hardrock, have players from Eswatini.

The club insider also confirmed that AMV would continue funding Manica Diamonds “at all levels “, including also the Rusape-based Division One side.

AMV are now focused on creating an environment that allows players to perform well, as the fight against relegation has already begun.

Manica Diamonds are bottom of the 18-team log standings with zero wins from nine games.

However, last weekend they showed some improvement when they held Hardrock in Chisumbanje.

The Gem Boys have picked up two points from two draws.

“Our work with Manica Diamonds has not changed. We are planning for the rest of the season together with our partners,” another source within AMV revealed.

There was no comment from Manica Diamonds FC officials.
