THE Northern Region Soccer League have resolved to honour one of their founding fathers and late former secretary-general, Cornelius Bwanya, by directing that a minute of silence be observed at all their mid-week games.
Bwanya died at West End Hospital last Saturday after a long battle with diabetes.
And, in a show of respect and honour, the NRSL board led by Martin Kweza have directed clubs to observe a minute of silence before each of the midweek fixtures, which kick off Wednesday afternoon.
The Northern Region Division One League is arguably the most exciting of the country’s leagues at the moment, and has been attracting good spectatorship.
The manner in which the NRSL have gone on a marketing onslaught and introduced individual monthly accolades for coaches and players has charmed many neutrals, while setting the bar for their counterparts in the other regions.
A host of matches will get the Week 12 fixtures underway on Wednesday, which will spill into the weekend.
An early three-horse race has also emerged in the league, between log leaders Herentals Under-20, Simba Bhora and Golden Eagles, and these teams have been attracting interest with large numbers now following their matches.
Simba Bhora’s Tinashe Balakasi leads the goal scoring charts with 12 goals going into the midweek fixtures.
