THE National Darts Association of Zimbabwe (NDAZ) says a new era has begun following the coming on board of a new executive led by president Rodwell “Chondoz” Chidanhamabwe.
The association recently hosted its first major darts tournament since 2020, with more than 250 participants from the country’s 10 provinces converging in Glendale, Mazowe District.
The event was also the first national darts tournament to be hosted in the mining town.
Darts is a competitive indoor precision sport in which players throw darts at a circular board to score points.
Although often associated with social clubs, the game has grown into an internationally recognised sport requiring concentration, discipline and accuracy.
Speaking during the tournament, Chidanhamabwe said the new executive intends to take the sport to grassroots communities while using it to address social challenges affecting youths.
“While many people view darts as a sport for a select few, our vision is to take it to the grassroots and make it accessible to everyone,” he said.
“We also want to use the sport as a tool to fight drug and substance abuse and provide psycho-social support in communities.”
