THE Premier Netball League is set to make its long-awaited return this weekend, with 20 teams expected to battle it out for honours.
The games will continue using the bubble format at four venues across the country.
Defending champions Platinum Queens will host Beitbridge Queens, ZUPCO, Stormers (the new kid on the block) and Redwing in Zvishavane.
Chipinge will play host to last season’s runners-ups Green Fuels, Harare City, City Angels, Lupane and City Angels.
Mutare City will entertain ZDF, Black Rhinos, University of Zimbabwe and Harare District, while Filchrist ZJC, FilChrist B, Marondera, Waterfalls and Ngezi will clash in Shamva.
Meanwhile, the Rainbow Amateur Netball League (RANL) played their week three matches at the weekend, with the highly anticipated clash between ZRP Mambas and Correctional Queens hogging the limelight for the wrong reasons.
The match was abandoned inside the first three minutes after Correctional Queens were accused of using players registered with their “low-ranking” side, Tenax.
Correctional Queens were recently endorsed as the flagship team of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS), prompting the team to acquire players from their low-ranking sides Khami and Tenax.
“Correctional Queens got two players from Tenax, however, their licences could not be produced because Tenax only sent their deregistration letters to RANL late.
“The matter is still under deliberation to establish if these players should be allowed to play going forward or if they should wait until the mid-season window for their transfers to be authorised,” said RANL secretary-general Moses Gukurume.
