Johanne Masowe eChishanu apostolic sect in Muzarabani has taken the lead in championing Covid-19 vaccination while the opening of church services to only vaccinated members has spurred more congregants to get inoculated.
Speaking at their shrine in Muzarabani recently Madzibaba Biggie said 130 members of the Muzarabani shrine have been vaccinated against a membership of 300.
He added that they are encouraging their members to get vaccinated and the numbers are growing each day.
“We have embraced the opening of church services to vaccinated members only as this has stimulated interest in other church members to get vaccination so that they can congregate with others,” said Madzibaba Biggie.
“We conduct our church service in the open and we are practicing social distancing. We check temperatures, sanitise and wear our masks. We are worried about other churches who are advising their members that the vaccination is a mark of the beast, which is a lie.”
He added that it is evil for church leaders to stop their members from getting the life-saving jab because Covid-19 is real.
They keep a register of vaccinated members and only allow members who received both the two jabs.
Madzibaba Biggie said that members are congregating in their respective district to curb the issue of fake vaccination cards.
In their register, they enter the name of the member, his or her apostolic name, date of birth, national identity number, date of vaccination and the vaccination centre.
The provincial medical director Dr Clemence Tshuma said 164 000 people in the province have been vaccinated so far, translating to 35 percent of their target.
“I would like to thank everyone, especially Members of Parliament for this achievement. We need to make sure that by December everyone is vaccinated. I encourage our MPs to continue mobilising the citizens,” he said.
“Currently we have adequate vaccines. Our clinics will continue vaccinating. We do not give numbers or cards for people to be vaccinated. Everyone who comes to our clinic gets vaccinated. If there are too many people we close the gate at 5pm and we make sure everyone within the gate is vaccinated.”
