At a time when online TV is gaining dominance and internet-based entertainment is on the rise, a new local online TV station, Hezvo! TV, is set to be officially launched at a function at the Book Cafe tonight. Hezvo! is a TV Yangu production which provides online comedy for Zimbabweans both locally and in the Diaspora with small video clips broadcast in five-minute series. The show is interactive with the audience who send funny video clips and pictures via online channels such as Facebook and YouTube, with viewers voting for their best clip or image and weekly winners receiving up to US$100 00 for their efforts.

Executive producer of the show Nicodemus Abote pointed out that the series is built around the concept of US show, “America’s Funniest Home Videos”, which relies on feedback from ordinary viewers to make it more interesting. “Accessibility, availability on demand and interaction are what makes online TV so appealing to people these days, as compared to traditional TV which seems distanced from the viewers,” he said.

Tonight’s programme will include four stand-up comedians from Simuka Comedy productions, jazz outfit Jam Signal and the guest of honour is internationally acclaimed stand-up comedian Carl Joshua Ncube.

“Everyone is welcome for this dose of home-brewed humour by Zimbos for Zimbos and enter the festive season in a good mood,” added Abote.

“As the saying goes, laughter is truly the best medicine, so come and boost your health with us with comedy,” added Abote.
