NEW: Parirenyatwa wins Horizon Shooting Competition

Parirenyatwa were crowned 2024 Horizon Shooting Club Champions of the corporate shooting tournament which was held at Polytronic Pistol and Rifle range in the capital on Friday.

Parirenyatwa scooped the gold medal while POSB walked away with a silver medal.

NBS walked away with a bronze medal.

Horizon Shooting Club, president, Sheldyn Dombo hailed the shooting tournament which was held under the theme “Shooting as a sport unlocking stereotypes” as success revealing that plans were underway to have it as annual tournament.

“We are really excited to have hosted the first edition of the Co-operate Shooting tournament and we are really excited that after its success the event will become a major highlight on the National Association of Zimbabwe Shooting calendar,” said the Horizon Shooting Club president.

She added that the participation of the corporates in the shooting helps enhance the shooting skills of the personnel which will be key in the fight against the rising of case of armed robberies in the country.

“In as much it is a competition, having corporates sending their personnel will enhance their skills especially in this time where we have an increase in cases of armed robberies,” said Dombo.

Her sentiments were echoed by team captain of the competition silver medalist, NBS head of security and investigations, Michael Smoko.

“We have been here at a Polytronic Shooting Range for a well-organised tournament by Horizon Shooting Club.

“We are very happy, and we encourage them to keep the fire burning.

“This is very important to security organisations, especially to security companies as they need to sharpen their skills when it comes to marksmanship,” said Smoko.

“It (tournament) also helps us to, each and every time, to come and participate in this competition. Why? Mainly one is for us to also sharpen our skills.

“Maybe if you are to talk of myself, I’ve been a police officer, I’ve been a police trainer, but I last used firearm maybe some ten years ago,” added Smoko.
