NEW: Children accuse father of witchcraft

Sharon Masocha

A Harare man has sought the court’s protection from his two children, whom he says accuse him of being a witch.

Rizard Adele also accused Fadzai Makumbe and Oric Adele of assaulting him, beating him and threatening him.

“They are my children. They beat me every time I return to Zimbabwe, saying I am the one who bewitched them.

“They threaten me and shout at me using abusive words. I love my children, but I am seeking a protection order because now I am always afraid to stay in the house with them.

“One other day they threw away my clothes and beat me, now I am wearing one piece of clothing every day and they are threatening me saying I must move out of the house,” said Mr Rizard Adele.

In her defence, Fadzai denied the allegations, saying she could not do that to her father.

“I cannot do that to my own father, he lives in South Africa so I cannot be violent towards him when we don’t live together.

“Yes, we have some problems, but I cannot accuse my father of bewitching us.”

Oric Adele also denied the allegations, saying they could not chase their own father away from home.

“We have no right to chase our father away from home, I don’t even know why he is throwing these allegations.

“If he wants a protection order against us I have no problem with it,” he said.

Ms Meenal Naratom granted the protection order, barring Fadzai and Oric from harassing their father.
