ACTIVIST and Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe leader Obert Masaraure was on Wednesday convicted of defeating and obstructing the course of justice.

Masaraure was standing accused of posting on X, formerly Twitter, urging teachers to demand the release of his colleague, Robson Chere, who was in jail at that time.

Harare regional magistrate Mrs Feresi Chakanyuka cleared Masaraure of the alternative charge of inciting public violence.

He is expected back in court on Thursday for his mitigation submissions.

The State will also make its aggravation submissions on Thursday.

Masaraure was convicted after a full trial.

Mr Ephraim Zinyandu appeared for the State
