NEW: Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe addresses water shortages in Goromonzi

PROSPECT Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) has refurbished the Chinyika Dam spillway, in a move aimed at addressing water shortages in Goromonzi.

The company recently constructed and raised the Chinyika Dam spillway by 1,5 metres.

The project was completed last month, with the hope of harvesting rainwater through the 2024/2025 rain season.

PLZ general manager Mr Henry Zhu said:

“The raised spillway is expected to harvest an additional 1 500 mega litre per year (MGL) of water, equivalent to 1,5 million cubic metres.

“This improvement was made to ensure water availability for both local communities, agricultural farmers, and the PLZ industry.”

The company has indicated long-term plans to construct an additional dam downstream of the Chinyika Dam.

The new dam is expected to have a water capacity ranging from 5 000MGL to 8 000MGL, further increasing the accessibility of water resources in the area.
