DOZENS of women employed in the public sector gathered in Harare on Thursday to commemorate International Women’s Day with a special wellness session.
The event, attended by management, executives and staff from the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare (MoPSLSW) and its parastatals, recognised the contributions of women to society, the economy and families.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, MoPSLSW Deputy Minister Mercy Dinha emphasised the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive workplace environment.
“Women are the backbone of our communities and their unwavering dedication to creating positive change is something to be celebrated.
“Today’s wellness session is a testament to our commitment to supporting the well-being of our female employees.
“We understand that self-care is not a luxury, but a necessity,” said Deputy Minister Dinha.
Organised in partnership with Santa Thadeu, medical service providers, the wellness session featured doctors, dentists and psychologists, providing female employees with access to healthcare services and self-care resources.
“We would like to express our gratitude to Santa Thadeu for facilitating the presence of the medical practitioners.
“Above all, our vision is to see women being given a platform which is not toxic. Women occupy 60 percent of the national population, leaving them behind means we cannot achieve national goals.
“We urge all of Government departments to recommit to creating a world where women are valued, respected and empowered as we work towards breaking down barriers, challenging biases and promoting equality.,” said Mrs Ruvarashe Chigiya-Mujeni, director of Gender, Mainstreaming, Inclusivity and Wellness.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Moira Dzuranyama, thanked the Government and partners for their kind gesture to recognise and consider women’s wellness.
“I am grateful for these medical services. Now we know that the employer is concerned with our wellness and values the efforts we put through to drive Government business,” she said.
