The Private Voluntary Organisation Amendment Bill will deal with those that will tarnish the image of Zimbabwe and those who breach the laws of the country, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has said.

Speaking during the Civil Society Organisation and Government Engagement on the PVO Amendment Bill, Minister Ziyambi said the Bill will deal with issues of financing terrorism and illicit financial flows.

“The primary purpose of what motivated us to amend the PVO Bill was the recommendations from the financial action task force. That was the primary aim to make sure that we comply.

“We then broaden it to say let’s look at the nature in which our laws that govern PVOs are, and we decided to streamline them,” said Minister Ziyambi.

“The majority of countries have an Act that deals with regulations of the NGO sector, so we are not the only ones. We do it to ensure that we also protect those individuals that donate to charitable organisations.”
