INDUSTRY and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu has called on SADC member states to collaborate on innovation and drive sustainable economic growth.

Speaking at the ZNCC Business Breakfast Meeting as part of the 2024 SADC Industrialisation Week on Thursday, Minister Ndlovu said there was need for collaboration in establishing innovation hubs throughout the region.

“Governments, in partnership with the private sector and development partners, must create innovation hubs, provide funding for start-ups and foster collaborations between universities and industries,” he said.

“Government also has a responsibility to protect intellectual property and to promote innovation and creativity.

“We need proactive strategies to close the gap between the academia and industry, wherein the former churns out skills that are demand-driven. In other words, relevant skills that will find application in industry.”
