NEW: Revenue performance shows improving economy

Online Reporter

Figures from the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) shows that as at the end of the first half of 2021, the tax collector had surpassed net revenue target by 8,16 percent indicating that the economy is performing better than expected despite the impact of Covid-19.

Net revenue collected over the six months period totalled $195,1 billion, against the targeted figure of $180,4 billion.

Zimra acting commissioner-general Mr Rameck Masaire told its annual general meeting this week that the improved economic performance was “as a result of implementation of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS-1).”

“Improvement in the economy directly translates to improvement in revenue collected by the authority.”

Mr Masaire added that total revenue collection projection for 2021 could exceed initial targets.

“We are projecting to surpass the 2021 net annual revenue target of $387,4 billion.”
