SHAUN DE SOUZA hopes to kill two birds with one stone when he takes a youthful Goshawks side to Uganda for a Victoria Cup tie this weekend.
Zimbabwe have been roped in as a last-minute replacement for Kenya after the East African nation withdrew from their match against Uganda.
Zimbabwe, therefore, will travel to Uganda under the Goshawks banner.
“Uganda were originally slated to play Kenya as part of the opening fixture of the Victoria Cup,” said Zimbabwe Rugby Union CEO Sifiso Made.
“However, when they (Kenya) withdrew from the tie, our counterparts in Uganda wrote to us requesting we come in as a replacement.
“Given we are already looking towards 2027, we decided to send a young side to fulfil the fixture, and they will be using the Goshawks name.”
Most of the Junior Sables players have been included in the Goshawks side as part of preparations for next month’s Canada International Rugby Series.
Among the most notable inclusions are Takudzwa Musingwini and Tanaka Gondo Mukandapi, who have been appointed captain and vice captain, respectively.
Brendon Marume, Tawanda Matipano, Tavonga Ablant, Andrew Rinomhota and a returning Benjamin Pattenden have also been included.
The Goshawks are expected to leave for Uganda on Friday afternoon, with the Victoria Cup tie slated for Saturday.
