FORMER Highlanders star MacClive Phiri has been offloaded by South African First Division side Venda FC in a massive clear-out that has claimed 15 players.

Venda FC finished fifth in the National First Division and are now seeking to recruit new players as they bid to challenge for honours next season.

The Limpopo-based side have, however, retained national team player Gerald Takwara.

The 28-year-old Phiri, a brilliant roving wing-back on his day, made his name at both Highlanders and Ngezi Platinum Stars before moving to Bidvest Wits in 2019.

He then had a short stint at Sekhukhune United before landing at Venda FC in 2021.
