SAKUBVA Stadium will only host top-flight league matches subject to the outcome of an inspection done on the facility today (Tuesday), Post Sport has learnt.
When asked why the venue for a match pitting Tenax C.S FC and Chicken Inn that was initially scheduled for Sakubva Stadium is indicated as To Be Announced (TBA) on the list of this weekend’s fixtures, Premier Soccer League spokesperson, Kudzai Bare said: “Yes, we are waiting for inspections to be done following last weekend’s incident.”
Play had to be stopped in the 51st minute for 26 minutes during last Sunday’s Premier Soccer League match between Manica Diamonds and Bulawayo City FC after the crossbar collapsed when Bulawayo City goalkeeper, Reward Muza swung on it.
The collapse of the goalpost coupled with a deteriorating turf owing to overuse must have prompted the PSL to request for an inspection of the Mutare facility to determine whether it is still fit to host top-flight league matches.
However, in a progressive development, all the teams that have been using Sakubva Stadium for their daily training session have since stopped and sought alternative training grounds, resulting in a marginal improvement of the state of the turf witnessed on Sunday.
