New seed variety unveiled

SC 637 gives a grain yield of 17,5 tonnes per hectare. This hybrid is a medium maturing variety that takes 148 days to mature, resulting in outstanding yields in high potential areas — 6-13t/ha.
The shelling percentage is quite high, with good ear placement and standing ability. SC 637 has got very long cobs, very good tip cover, semi flint grain, moderate dry down rate, as well as good tolerance to maize streak and mottle virus.
SC 637 is moderate to Northern Corn Leaf Spot and the hybrid performs outstandingly in natural Region II and III.
“Seed Co has a number of programmes to ensure that the we get closer to the farmer in our efforts to ensure that they achieve massive yields out of Seed Co varieties,” the company’s managing director Mr Dennis Zaranyika said.
Farmers were also urged to manage their crops well to get maximum yields from the respective varieties grown.
