SIX men from Mutoko appeared in court on Tuesday for allegedly killing a 15-year-old boy they had accused of stealing beer and cash from a shop.
Mutoko magistrate, Mr Edwin Marecha, remanded the owner of the shop, Wayne Chanachimwe (24) and his accomplices, Weston Karidza (19), Alvin Sigauke (19) Rodrik Kindoni (47), Phineas Kasuso (32), and Anthony Nyadinda (26) in custody to September 2.
Prosecutor, Mr Steven Malota, told the court that on August 17, 2022, at Holgate Business Centre under Chief Chirinda Village, Chanachimwe approached the now deceased, Tanyaradzwa Mutegude, accusing him of having stolen beer and cash amounting to US$1 000 from his bottle store.
Chanachimwe assaulted the now deceased using a fan belt, before the five men joined him in attacking the juvenile using an axe handle and kicking him.
The six proceeded to Borera dam, where they allegedly tortured Mategude by dipping his head in water.
“When the accused persons realised that Tanyaradzwa Mutegude was unconscious, they stopped assaulting and carried him to Dr Mazanhi’s private surgery where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” said Mr Malota.
