NEW: Smuggler caught with US$31 000 worth of second-hand clothing, groceries

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers deployed at Nyamapanda Border Post on Tuesday arrested a suspected smuggler and recovered second-hand clothing items and groceries valued at US$31 235.

Casper Kokerai (31), who was driving a Volvo truck registration number AGL 0096, was arrested after he was found with 172 bales of second-hand clothes, 10 boxes of second-hand shoes, two sacks of second-hand handbags, and four sacks of mixed clothes at a security checkpoint.

In a statement, ZRP said the arrest was made as part of an ongoing operation code-named “No to Cross Border Crimes”.

A search conducted by the police also led to the recovery of two boxes of Malawi Gin, one box of mixed fish, 50 kg mealie-meal, 150kg of cowpeas, two boxes of chili and 550 kg of groundnuts.”
