TAEKWONDO champion Natsiraishe Maritsa is the latest recipient of the 2021 International Olympic Committee (IOC) Women and Sport trophy.
The award is in recognition of the work the young 18-year-old is doing with her Vulnerable Under-aged People’s Auditorium, a backyard dojo where she trains taekwondo and educates young people on the dangers of drug abuse and child marriages.
Among the first to send congratulatory messages to the young Taekwondo master was the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA).
“The members of the executive committee of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) send you their sincere congratulations, as you have been made the winner of the 2021 International Olympic Committee (IOC) ‘Women and Sport’ Trophy among six champions of gender equality,” wrote ANOCA president Mustapha Berraf.
“Your distinction at the continental level reflects your commitment as a leader in the promotion of taekwondo in support of adolescent girls and boys who are victims of violence, harassment or discrimination.
“This is the success achieved by your initiative called Vulnerable Under-aged People’s Auditorium.
“You have thus made sport an instrument of peace and hope for African youth,” went on the letter.
Berraf went on highlight how Maritsa’s work is in line with the values of the Olympic and global sports movement, and, as such, she has made the continent proud.
“The continent is proud of you, and the African Olympic and sports movement congratulates you and encourages you to stay the course so that our youth through sport has a promising future,” he said.
