NEW: Tanzania’s President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan arrives

TANZANIA’S President and chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has arrived in Zimbabwe for the bloc’s Extraordinary Summit that will focus on the security situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Dr Hassan landed at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport Friday morning and was warmly received by Zimbabwe’s Attorney-General, Mrs Virginia Mabiza.

The summit brings together regional leaders.

The SADC Organ Troika is responsible for promoting peace and security within the region, and this high-level meeting underscores the bloc’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to the challenges in the DRC.

Discussions are expected to cover regional security efforts, diplomatic engagements and possible intervention strategies to support stability in the mineral-rich DRC.
