NEW: Three robbers in court for theft

THREE robbers have appeared in court on allegations of armed robbery.

Blessing Kanyenze, Shadreck Kanjera and Petros Nziramasanga were charged with armed robbery as defined in Section 126 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.

Prosecutor Mr Shane Kabonera said on January 7, 2022, at around 2am, complainant Isaac Manjengwa and his wife, who reside at 3008 Mt Pleasant Heights, were asleep in their bedroom, while their daughter Ivancah Manjengwa (13) was watching television in the lounge.

The accused persons broke into the house and confronted the daughter, threatening her.

They instructed her knock on the complainant’s bedroom under the pretext that she had developed a stomach ache.

The complainant opened the bedroom door and was confronted by the accused persons and their accomplice, Prosper Norest Mutambudzi, who is already detained at Harare Remand Prison.

The quartet, who were putting on balaclavas and armed with iron bars, screwdrivers and stones, threatened the complainant with death.

They demanded cash and other valuables, and were handed

US$280 in cash.

The robbers also got away with a DStv Explorer Decoder with a smart card and a Samsung phone.

Investigations by police subsequently led to their arrest.

Harare magistrate Mrs Belinda Chimuka remanded the trio in custody to May 5, 2022.
