TEENAGE sensation Tinotenda Fambira was crowned the Old Mutual Table Tennis Zimbabwe Open Champion on Sunday.

He beat defending champion Vikram Singh 3-2 in a thrilling final.

Singh, a five-time national champion, went into the tournament as the favourite but was defeated by the 19-year-old.

Fambira trailed Singh for the better part of the five-set thriller but he eventually broke his more seasoned opponent in the decisive fifth set to claim the Zimbabwe Open title.

“I did not expect to win this tournament. It is a very pleasing surprise,” said Fambira.

“It was a good match and I believe that I played some of my best table tennis here,” he said.
