Online Reporter

Tobacco farmers have so far grossed US$529 million from selling 174 million kilogrammes at the auction and contract floors, which is more than US$522 million from 188 million kgs in the same period a year ago.

Improved earnings are attributed to better prices.

According to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), the 174 million kilogrammes had been sold by July 7 at an average price of US$3,03 per kg.

Last year, the average price was US$2,77 per kg.

For the current marketing season, the highest price achieved to date is US$6,80 per kg, while the lowest price is US$0,10 per kg.
