Online Reporter

MATTHEW Rusike Children’s Home (MRCH) will on Sunday hold a fundraising marathon meant to raise money for childcare and developmental activities at the facility.

Dubbed “Run for a child”, the marathon will have four categories – the 5km, 10km, 21km and the 42km races.

MRCH spokesperson Ms Zvirinane Matore said: “The proceeds from this run will be channelled into childcare activities at the home, and this year the home intends to embark on a solar project to the housing units.”

The event will take place at Old Georgians Sports Club from 6am.

“Our target is 500 runners and we are inviting everyone to come and support this initiative,” she said.

The home was started by the late Reverend Matthew Jacha Rusike, a Methodist minister, in the 1950s.

The home was formally registered in 1968 and represents the childcare arm of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe.

Children are placed at the facility by the Department of Social Development, which is under the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.
