NEW: Tobacco sales top US$857m

Tobacco sales have risen to US$857 million from 283 million kg that have been delivered by farmers during the current marketing season, the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) has said.

The tobacco was sold at an average price of US$3,03.

Auction floors have taken delivery of 19 million kg, while contract floors account for 263 million kg.

The highest price achieved to date is US$6,10 per kg, while the lowest is US$0,10.
