CHEVRONS all-rounder Sikandar Raza was named player of the match in his first match of the Amana Group 2nd Bangabandhu Rajshahi T20 Cricket Tournament in Bangladesh on Thursday.

The 36-year-old helped his side Raima Rangers clinch an eight-wicket victory over the Sentinels, claiming two wickets and scoring 30 runs off 12 balls.

The accolade came as a huge surprise and delight to Raza, who left the country on Tuesday and arrived early Thursday morning in Bangladesh, only to then walk straight into Rangers’ starting XI and lead them to victory.

“I had a long journey from Zimbabwe, but the body is holding on okay,” he said.

“I arrived here at 3am and the game was on at 9am. However, I am happy that we managed to win the game and I also got named the player of the match.”
