GOVERNMENT is finalising moves to construct a resort facility with 16 units containing 96 beds at the Mountain Lake Resort at Juliasdale in Nyanga.
The establishment of a tourism facility in Juliasdale is a welcome development as it will add more accommodation options for travellers.
Nyanga already boasts of hotel and accommodation facilities such as Troutbeck Resort, Montclair Hotel and Casino, Village Inn and Dongo Villas, among others. Speaking in a Post-Cabinet Press briefing on Wednesday, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said the Juliasdale project is set to be commissioned in July this year.
“The project on promoting Environmental Protection, Climate Resilience and Natural Resources Management aims at constructing 16 units with 96 beds at the Mountain Lake Resort at Juliasdale in Nyanga District of Manicaland Province and is set for commissioning in July 2023,” she said.
She also revealed that tourism and accommodation facility, Rhodes Hotel, which was being rehabilitated, is now fully functional and bookings have since commenced.
“The major refurbishment works at the Rhodes Nyanga Hotel have been completed and the facility has commenced taking bookings after recruiting more than 50 percent of critical skills staff,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
Rhodes Hotel is one of the iconic tourism facilities, not only in Nyanga District but in Zimbabwe as a whole.
The boutique Hotel that was built in the 1800s by Cecil John Rhodes as his holiday home and hence it holds massive historic significance.
It was converted into a hotel in 1933 and is the only hotel in the Nyanga National Park.
At the facility, one will also find the Rhodes Museum, where some of Rhodes’ personal items are kept.
Meanwhile, Government, through the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, has installed a total of 21 Automatic Weather Stations at existing Meteorological Services stations around the country in order to enhance weather forecasting, which is crucial for the tourism industry.
