NEW: Twelve touts arrested for harassing traveller

Twelve suspected touts who were captured in a viral video dragging and harassing a traveller at Mbare Musika Bus Terminus in Harare have been arrested and have since appeared at Mbare Magistrates’ Court.

They were not asked to plead when they appeared before Mbare Magistrate, Mr Artwell Sanyatwe.

The suspects, Themba Chabikwa (40), Simon Dickson, Simbarashe Katsama (39), Tonderai Mukanji (36), Tendai Vinasho(41), Taurai Chibambo (37), Fredrick Mukandiro (23), Frank Kudinga (29), Naison Chirawu (25), Ngonidzashe Muzukizi (24), Fidelis Dembetembe and Courage Chinyoka were charged with touting.

Mr Sanyatwe remanded them in custody until March 3.

The State, led by Ms Janet Mlambo, said early this month, a traveller intended to board a Boundary Bus to Kariba.

It is alleged that the touts swarmed the traveller, manhandled and dragged him as they wanted him to board their bus.

Other people at the bus terminus captured the incident and shared the video on social media.

The police investigated the matter, resulting in the arrest of the twelve.
