NEW: Two arrested for US$3000 fraud

THE Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two Harare men in connection with six cases of fraud.

Onward Ruka (41) and Rumbidzai Kawondera (38) are accused of defrauding people applying for civic documents of US$3 000 after masquerading as employees from the Registrar-General’s Office.

In a statement, CID Northern Region community relations liaison officer Detective Inspector Portia Chino said the duo allegedly committed the offences between September 2020 and April 2021.

“In the month of January 2021, the two defrauded two complainants a total of US$1 392 which was meant for the renewal of four passports and a study visa,” she said.
