NEW: UB40 returns to Zim after 41 years

LEGENDARY reggae and pop singer Alistair Campbell and his UB40 musical outfit will perform in Harare on May 25, 41 years after the group’s last gig in the country.

Campbell, who fronts the United Kingdom-based band, confirmed the tour.

“The show you have all been waiting for… we cannot wait to party with you guys,” he said.

Event organiser Walter Wanyanya of Ngoma Nehosho Promotions said UB40 has a massive following in the country.

“UB40 is an iconic band which was on top of our list of artistes that we intend to bring to Zimbabwe,” he said.

“We feel that it is time we bring them back.”

Wanyanya is confident the show will be sold out.

“In terms of ticket sales, the response is overwhelming.

“Zimbabweans have seemingly embraced the culture of buying tickets in advance. Based on ticket sales made so far, we are confident the show will be sold out.”

Campbell’s 22-member band will share the stage with local artistes such as Mimmie Tarukwana, Sylent Nqoe, DJ Chiweddar and Josh Ansley.

Formed in Birmingham, England, in 1978, the band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and has released more than 50 UK hit singles.

Among the hit singles are “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You”, “Red, Red Wine” and “I Got You, Babe”.
