THE synchronisation of Hwange Power Station Unit 7 succeeded on first attempt yesterday, paving way for the gradual incorporation of 300 MW into the national grid.
In a statement Tuesday morning, the contactor, PowerChina said Unit 7 went live without any issues just after 6 pm on Monday.
“At 6:25 pm local time, March 20, 2023, Unit 7 of the Hwange Expansion Project succeeded in synchronisation at the first attempt,” reads the statement.
“Since then the power of the project has been connected to the national grid.
“The scheduled goal is achieved. We wish to light Zimbabwe.”
Synchronisation is the matching of frequency, phase and voltage of a generator or other sources of power to an electrical grid for transmission and distribution purposes.
During synchronisation, the engineers ensure that power factors, such as voltage, match what is already on the grid.
The development is expected to ease current power shortages.
