A 20-year-old man from New Tafara, Harare, will perform 210 hours of unpaid work after he broke another man’s arm in a fight over a dog.

Benjamin Farashishiko was found guilty of assaulting and breaking Tafadzwa Musonhe’s hand for taking his dog without consent.

He was initially jailed for nine months by Harare magistrate Ms Ethel Chichera.

However, three months were set aside for five years on the condition that Farashishiko does not commit a similar offence in that period.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition that he perform 210 hours of community service at Mabvuku Police Station.

The State had it that the two were at Tafara Hall when Farashishiko quizzed Musonhe on why he was walking around with his dog, which was on a leash.

They then exchanged words, resulting in Farashishiko attacking Musonhe.

Four days after the attack, Farashishiko again confronted Musonhe, threatening to assault him in the event that he continued phoning his father asking for money for medical bills.

He also ordered him not to come anywhere near his place of residence.

Irked by Farashishiko’s behaviour, Musonhe took the matter to the courts, where Farashishiko was convicted of assault and threats of future violence.
