NEW: Unregistered schools move to comply

HARARE province says around 70 percent of schools that were operating without proper registration have so far managed to comply after an operation targeting unregistered schools began in 2021.

About 400 schools were found operating without registration.

In a recent interview, Harare Metropolitan Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mr Tafadzwa Muguti said: “We had a total of 400 unregistered schools as of 2021. And, as at the end of last year, almost 300 schools had been registered; that is over 70 percent have managed to comply.”

Schools that have not complied risk being closed.
