AS the national Covid-19 vaccination programme continues, more people are queueing up for the booster shot, with more than 90 000 people having received the jab.

By Thursday, a total of 92 522 people had taken the third dose of the vaccines, figures released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care show.

In total, 4 326 790 and 3 359 094 have received the first and second jabs respectively.

Booster shots started to be administered in the country in December last year to frontline workers, people with chronic diseases and the elderly after authorisation by President Mnangagwa.

The Covid-19 third shot is administered to give the immune system a boost to defend against the virus.

In Zimbabwe’s case, the booster shot is administered at least six months after the second dose and six months from the date they recovered for those who would have tested positive for Covid-19.
