NEW: US$186 million tobacco sold

FIFTY-TWO million kilogrammes of tobacco have been sold to date at both the auction and contract floors, yielding US$186 million.

According to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), the bulk of the tobacco has been sold at the contract floors (49,5 million kg), while the balance of 3,18 million kg has been sold at the auction floors.

Compared to last year, the 52 million kg sold so far is a 6,5 percent improvement from the 49,4 million kg sold over the same period in 2023.

The golden leaf has been sold at an average price of US$3,53, compared to last year’s average price of US$3.

The highest price achieved to date is US$6,99 per kg, while the lowest price so far is US$0,10c.
