UTANDE Internet Services have pledged to play a critical part in the fulfilment of National Development Strategy (NDS1) through technology as the country transforms to digital economy.

Speaking at a Mutare Customer Appreciation cocktail held recently at a local hotel, Utande’s chief executive officer, Mr Never Ncube, said: “We are very clear about our responsibility. We want to play our part in the fulfilment of NDS1 because we know technology will drive the future economies. In terms of the Mutare market, in the last three years, we have seen a surge in the uptake of our services.

“We want to make sure that we provide the best service to our market in Mutare. Connectivity is now a right, there is e-learning and people are working from home which requires a decent network. In support of NDS1 as a sector, we were actually asked to come up with our own five-year strategy which we submitted to the ministry of Information Communication and Technology which speaks about the roadmap that the country is going to take in making sure that we convert into a digital economy.

“As part of the infrastructure deployment that we are doing, last year we availed US$1.5 million in rolling the LTE network and in terms of fibre network we deployed 85km of fibre in Mutare and Harare. This year we will cover 105km in Mutare, Harare and Bulawayo.”
