As part of efforts to strengthen the country’s migration management capabilities, the Government has handed over 36 vehicles to the Department of Immigration.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe said the fleet, comprising Toyota Land Cruisers and Ford Rangers, is expected to enhance the department’s flexibility and response time.

“I feel honoured to stand before you to officiate at this very important occasion of handing over new operational vehicles, comprising 20 Toyota Land Cruisers, 10 Ford Ranger Double Cabs and six Ford Ranger Single Cabs, from the Government of Zimbabwe to the Department of Immigration,” he said.

“The occasion has come at an opportune time. As a nation and under the guidance of President Mnangagwa, we are implementing the National Development Strategy 1 in pursuit of Vision 2030.

“This is a direct response to the National Priority Area (NPA) on transport, infrastructure and utilities for the year 2024.”

The Department of Immigration clears approximately eight million travellers annually and arrests around 30 000 individuals for immigration law violations.

The new vehicles will support joint border patrols and combat irregular migration.

Minister Kazembe announced the finalisation of an integrated Online Border Management System (OBMS), featuring biometric identification, online visa applications and automated border control.
