VIXENS and JBC men stretched their unbeaten runs and moved closer to clinching the Harare Basketball Association (HBA) Super Six League, courtesy of two convincing wins during the Easter holiday.

teams had to play two games over the weekend, as the HBA strives to meet its deadline for the end of the 2022/2023 season, as well as submit representatives for the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) National League Play-offs.

In the women’s category, Vixens stretched their unbeaten run to 15 matches, courtesy of wins over JBC women (63-36) and Harare City Hornets (46-41) in matches played at the City Sports Centre on Friday and Sunday.

The wins saw the reigning Harare and National League champions maintain their position at the top of the women’s log standings with 33 points from 18 matches.

UZ Sparks are second, a point behind the log leaders, and also won their respective matches against Greenstars (55-53) and Bunnies (67-38).

JBC women are third on 26 points from 17 matches, while Harare City Hornets (25), Bunnies (22) and Greenstars (20) wrap up the log standings after the latest rounds of games.

JBC men continued with their perfect record, as their wins over Harare City Hornets and Leopards Academy saw them make it 18 wins from 18 matches.

The runaway favourites for the men’s crown remain at the apex of the men’s division with 36 points from 18 matches, while Leopards Academy (27), Bucs (26), Foxes (25), Harare City Hornets (25), and UZ Stars (22) complete the log standings.

The HBA have just over two weeks to play their remaining seven rounds of matches, after which attention is expected to shift to the BUZ National League Play-offs, which are slated for Mutare next month.

The qualifiers are pencilled in for May 5 to 7 in Mutare, with finals expected to run from May 25 to 28 in Harare.

Vixens and Foxes have already qualified for the finals by virtue of being defending champions.

The HBA Super Six League second-placed teams – UZ Sparks and a men’s team to be determined – will also be granted slots as hosts.
