THE recently commissioned 10 million litre Chikanga water reservoir, which is yet to service households, is set to undergo repairs after several leaks developed on the tank during a trial run.City Engineer, Mr Donald Nyatoti, revealed on Monday that some leaks had developed on the tank which will be repaired by the contractor soon.
“At least 5 million litres of water had collected in the tank when the leaks developed. It’s a trial run and the contractor will repair the leaks,” he said. Eng Nyatoti said residents will have to wait for sometime for uninterrupted water supply as the contractor is also working on a water line that connects to the tank. He said the process will be completed within the next 14 days.
“When that line is finished water will be available to residents. However, this does not in any way affect current water supplies to the suburb because we are doing so through a by-pass line.”
The water tank which has brought a ray of hope to residents is set to service more than 9 000 households as well as cater for future urban development.
Interviewed residents urged council to push the contractor to do the repairs urgently and ensure adequate water supply.
Some parts of Hobhouse high density suburb that will be serviced by the tank have gone for years without water coming out of their taps.
