NEW: Whawha living dangerously

WITH a poor return rate of 0.75 points per match, bottom-placed Whawha FC now face the grim possibility of getting relegated even before the end of the 2021/2022 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The Gweru-based side anchor the log with 15 points from 20 matches ahead of their next match against resurgent Highlanders FC, at Ascot on Saturday.

Whawha go into this match on the back of a 3-1 loss against other relegation candidates, Bulawayo City, at Barbourfields last weekend.

Red hot midfielder, Calum English-Brown, scored a brilliant free kick in that match.

The Legends Academy product has been one of the shining lights in a league that is crying out for heroes.

English-Brown could be a key player in Whawha’s battle against relegation, with just 10 games of the season to go.

However, in Highlanders, Luke Jukulile’s side face an uphill task.

Bosso have rediscovered their touch under Brazilian coach, Brito.

They are unbeaten since the arrival of the Brazilian, who has brought in a refreshing brand of football that is attracting fans back to the stadium.

Bosso have posted three wins in four matches since the arrival of Brito.

“Highlanders are back in the groove,” said 26-year-old Godfrey Makaruse, one of the players who have been revived by Brito.

Makaruse, who scored his third goal of the season in last weekend’s 3-0 win against Manica Diamonds, has been converted from an attacking winger to a left wing-back.

“We are working extra hard. We told ourselves we needed to start winning matches.

“We lost a number of points in the first half of the season, so it’s key that we make up for lost ground,” he said.

Bosso are now sixth on the log, with 30 points, two behind fourth-placed Manica Diamonds.
