NEW: WHO assesses Zimbabwe’s medicines regulator

AN eight-member delegation of health experts from the World Health Organisation (WHO) is in the country for a working visit to assess the capacity of the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ).

In a statement on Monday, MCAZ said the team is in the country for a week and is being led by WHO technical officer, Mohamed Refaat.

“The team is in the country to conduct an assessment of MCAZ as a national regulatory authority.

“The experts will assess the Authority’s capacity to assure quality, safety and efficacy of medical products and facilitate the creation of an institutional development plan that builds on strengths and addresses identified gaps,” reads part of the statement.

The team will also be facilitating the creation of an institutional development plan, which builds on strengths and addresses identified gaps.
