NEW: Women in construction empower youths

THE Zimbabwe Women in Construction (ZWC), a body representing the interests of women in the construction industry, has embarked on a programme that seeks to empower women and the youth.

More than 130 youths and women drawn from Seke district will today receive cash and chicks worth thousands of dollars as part of the organisation’s empowerment drive.

The handover ceremony will be held at Red Sun Academy in Chitungwiza.

Apart from the money and the chicks, beneficiaries are also set to receive training on how to successfully run businesses.

Mrs Elizabeth Chakudunga, the ZWC founder and president, said her organisation gave itself the mandate of empowering women and the youth.

“We pride ourselves in helping women and the youths by training them and availing capital,” she said. “It is not enough to avail funds to the beneficiaries without training them.”

Clarice Mahachi, the ZWC chairperson, said her organisation will link the beneficiaries to the market.

“This is a full package. After training and providing them with the capital, we will also link the beneficiaries to the market,” she said.
