EMPOWERING women through skills development and income-generating projects is crucial for eradicating hunger and reducing gender-based violence as Zimbabwe moves closer to achieving Vision 2030.

This was said by ZANU PF Women’s League Secretary Cde Mabel Chinomona at the ZANU PF Mashonaland West Women’s League Annual Show at Magunje Vocational Training Centre on Friday.

The event featured hundreds of women showcasing their cooking, artistic and craft-making skills as part of a broader initiative to empower both women and their communities.

The ZANU-PF-led Government is also spearheading the establishment of village business units in all the country’s 35 000 villages to help eradicate hunger and empower women.

Authorities are also distributing roadrunner chicks, pigs, sewing machines, among others, to help drive income-generating projects for women.

Participants at the annual event praised President Mnangagwa for people-centred projects that are transforming lives and livelihoods.

Gogo Concilia Mudimu, a 72-year-old widow, shared how she has been able to care for her orphaned grandchildren.

“With the income I earn from my craftwork, I can now pay school fees for my children. It gives me dignity and lessens the burden on my husband,” she said.

Cde Mitchelle Dzvede, a beneficiary of projects in Sanyati district, said the expansion of women’s skills is transforming lives.

“When women are skilled, they can become breadwinners and even participate in politics. Empowering them helps reduce tensions at home and contributes to the fight against gender-based violence.”

Hurungwe West Member of Parliament Chinjai Kambuzuma said the province had received a US$300 000 revolving fund from President Mnangagwa, which is set to transform lives in her area.

“This fund means the projects we are planning will become a reality. We can finally start businesses and make them grow,” she stated.

Cde Chinomona reiterated the party’s commitment to supporting women, urging them to unite and empower each other in their quest for success.

“As women, we must stand together. ZANU PF has placed women at the heart of its empowerment agenda, and we want you to use your talents to provide for your families, send your children to school and contribute to national development. No woman should be left behind when resources and opportunities are available.”

She also said every province received a US$300 000 revolving fund from the President.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Deputy Minister Cde Mercy Dinha, who is also a member of the Mashonaland West ZANU PF Women’s League, said the projects support the Government’s goals of food security and self-sufficiency.

Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Cde Marian Chombo added: “This programme aligns with the national vision of leaving no one behind. Every community, whether rural or urban, must benefit from empowerment projects to ensure inclusive development.”
