The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has alleyed any fears on the forecasted Tropical Storm Filipo that is currently in the south-east coast of Mozambique.
MSD said the storm will not cause any damage in Zimbabwe as it is expected to only bring some winds and moderate rain.
In a statement, MSD head of forecasting Mr James Ngoma said:
“Tropical Storm Filipo will not affect Zimbabwe much. More information is in the weather report and forecast but do not panic, Zimbabwe is safe,” said Mr Ngoma.
In a weather update on Monday, MSD said the tropical storm resulted in thunderstorms in the Mashonaland provinces, with Guruve receiving the highest rainfall of 36mm, while the rest got 15mm.
With the storm encroaching the borders, only south-eastern parts of the country might be affected.
“Anticipate windy conditions in Manicaland, Masvingo and Matabeleland South provinces. It should be cloudy and mild with intermittent light showers.
“Localised heavier rains (above 30mm) are probable in the eastern parts of districts such as Chiredzi, Chipinge and Chimanimani,” reads part of the statement.
Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland provinces are expected to be partly cloudy with isolated showers.
Much of Midlands, Bulawayo and Matabeleland North provinces should be mostly sunny and hot.
