Zimbabwe and Nicaragua are exploring avenues for collaboration in waste management and clean energy production, with both countries facing similar challenges in these sectors.
Nicaragua’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Nadeska Cuthbert, expressed her admiration for Zimbabwe’s advancements in sustainable waste management during a tour of the Geo Pomona Waste Management facility on Tuesday.
Geo Pomona is developing a cutting-edge waste-to-energy recycling plant in Pomona, which impressed Ambassador Cuthbert, particularly due to its power generation capabilities.
“Back home in Nicaragua, we are implementing similar processes in waste management, so there is much we can learn from Geo Pomona and share knowledge between our two countries,” said Ambassador Cuthbert.
“I’m particularly interested in the power production aspect; as green energy is a crucial area for our nation to embrace. If there’s an opportunity for collaboration, we would gladly pursue it.”
Geo Pomona Waste Management chief executive officer and executive chairman, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya emphasised the importance of international partnerships and the value of exchanging ideas.
“We are honoured by the international and diplomatic attention our work is receiving. Everyone is coming here to learn and to share ideas, and this shows that we are on the right track,” said Dr Nguwaya.
“Our approach is about sharing and learning together. Working with Nicaragua would be a great opportunity for both sides.”
He highlighted the company’s pride in bringing state-of-the-art waste management technology to Zimbabwe.
The Geo Pomona facility is poised to serve as a model of innovation in waste-to-energy projects, reinforcing Zimbabwe’s role as a leader in sustainable waste management and renewable energy development.
