Zimpost joined postal administrations across Africa on Saturday to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Pan-African Postal Union (PAPU) Day.
This year’s theme, “The Post: A Socially Responsible Industry for Inclusive Development,” underscores postal services’ vital role in fostering equitable growth throughout the continent.
In a statement, Zimpost said the theme highlights the unique position of the postal sector as a socially responsible catalyst for equitable growth.
“Pan African Postal Union (PAPU), established on January 18, 1980, is a specialised agency of the African Union focused on enhancing postal services across the continent. Its mission includes the promotion of postal development in the continent, improvement of postal infrastructure, and fostering cooperation among member States to support socio-economic growth.
“The organ is also committed to digital transformation and sustainability, to ensure that postal services remain relevant and impactful in all African communities.”
PAPU’s mandate, Zimpost said, also encompasses capacity building, advocacy work for supportive policies, and facilitation of partnerships to improve service delivery, especially in underserved areas.
In his 2025 message, the PAPU secretary general Dr, Sifundo Chief Moyo described this year’s PAPU Day as a day to celebrate the African postal customer.
He explained the critical role played by the Post Office in Africa, where the post is working to reduce waste and increase recycling.
The Post Office, he added, is positioned to play a pivotal role in trade facilitation, financial inclusion, information sharing, community grounding, and agency services, assisting governments in managing disasters and providing essential services.
Zimpost like other PAPU member States is also sustainably promoting postal development.
In his statement, postmaster general, Mr Maxwell Chitendeni noted that Zimpost is already making strides in promoting financial inclusion by offering PostMoney, PosTransfer and agency banking.
“PostMoney is a digital money order that allows customers to send and receive USD cash at affordable rates throughout Zimpost’s expansive postal network of over 240 outlets. It applies to Person to Person (P2P), Business to Person (B2P), Person to Business (P2B) money transfers, bill payments and airtime top up.”
Zimpost celebrated this year’s PAPU Day by posting various messages on its website and social media platforms.
