NEW: Government urged to capacitate women in mining

Sunday Mail Online

THE Government has been urged to continue capacitating women in mining and enhance their contribution to the economy.

Kamativi Mining Company safety officer Ms Lorraine Katekwe said this in a recent interview.

“As a woman in a male-dominated industry, I faced scepticism and doubt from some of my colleagues,” she said.

“However, I refused to let their negativity hold me back. Instead, I used it as fuel to drive my success. I believe if others get the same opportunity I got, we can indeed improve Zimbabwe’s economy.”

Women, she said, are capable of excelling in any sector.

“Women are powerful, capable and deserving of a seat at the table.

“We must take up space, assert our voices and demand to be heard. The mining industry needs more women like me, and I am proud to be paving the way for future generations.”
